Underrated: Harper

We continue our Underrated series with one of the best and overlooked emerging artists from the UK, London-based singer and songwriter Harper.

Born in Bristol, raised in South Wales where she attended performing arts school, Harper moved to London at the age of 18 to study commercial music at the University of Westminster, and graduated with a degree.

After starting her music career with a strong alternative and pop-infused sound, she started showcasing her versatility with eclectic singles such as “Skin” and “No Love In The Jungle”. Most people recognise Harper from her collaboration with Conor Maynard on the Drake “One Dance” cover — the video has already been viewed over 57 million times since it was uploaded on YouTube back in April 2016.

Why is she underrated?

When you listen to Harper, you hear an artist whose not only passionate about music and her art but also a seriously gifted vocalist and songwriter — she’s a walking hitmaker. She started heading in the right direction sonically when she released the absolute banger “Running Underwater”, since then her recent singles such as “Body On Me” and “Vibe” have had a summery Island flavour with pop melodies, proving she has a bright future in music.

Although Harper has been one of the most slept on emerging artists in the UK, she has remained consistent throughout and hasn’t released a generic mainstream single that would create a commercial buzz for her career. She recently signed a deal with First Access Entertainment, and we’re excited to hear new music.
