esmerelda — Too Much

Alt-pop artist esmerelda releases new single “Too Much”

Hailing from London, emerging British-Afghan singer, songwriter and producer esmerelda has already garnered support from the likes of BBC Introducing London, EARMILK, CLOUT and Spotify’s New Pop Revolution and Fresh Finds playlist in the past. Her new single “Too Much”, produced by BROOKFIELD (Charli XCX, Anne Marie), is the third single taken from her upcoming conceptual EP Medusa Was Innocent.

The song starts off slow as esmerelda’s gorgeous vocals take centre stage, and tells a relatable contemporary tale of youthful self-doubt which instantly connects with the listener. The song then progresses, and eventually becomes this almost anthemic-like track thanks to its thumping production.

“‘Too Much’ is about panicking that life should be coming together quicker. It’s about comparing yourself to your friends, to your past self, to people on social media, and thinking….What am I doing wrong? Why do I feel like I’m not having as much fun or finding as much success as everyone else? There’s a lot of pressure to be successful and not to disappoint anybody. Perhaps to compensate I can be over-confident and loud at times. I’ve realised that this might come across as overwhelming or, literally ‘too much’. This song is kind of an ode to all the times I’ve left a scenario second-guessing myself or feeling like I should’ve toned it down”esmerelda.
