Fresh Sounds [28/01/2022]

This weeks Fresh Sounds list is stacked with amazing songs!

We’ve said this a million times, and we’ll say it again; it’s our favourite day of the week— it’s New Music Friday! And what a Friday it is today! After a pretty decent start to the year, this weeks releases are nothing short of amazing. Today marks the return of some of our faves such as XYLØ, NoSo and Eli Sostre, also one of Teflon Sega’s best songs is finally on all DSP’s! All of these songs feature on our main playlist THE NÜ— you can follow the playlist here.

XYLØ — aliens

Paige Duddy aka XYLØ made a triumphant return with her brand new single “aliens” a few days ago, her first release since the 2020 EP Outsiders Club. Accompanied by a striking music video directed by Callum Walker-Hutchinson and Lee Newell which has a sci-fi vibe, “aliens” is an infectiously-catchy pop track built over a brilliant production.

NoSo — Honey Understand

Built over a thumping production and inspired by melodramatic screenplays they would write each night before going to bed, “Honey Understand” is the excellent follow up to emerging indie/alternative artist NoSo’s outstanding previous single “Suburbia”.

Teflon Sega x Angel + Dren — Overflo

Mysterious act Teflon Sega has finally released on his best songs on all DSP’s. “Overflo” is a vibrant track featuring Angel + Dren. While still sticking to his dark R&B vibe, Teflon proves he’s capable of creating a song with mainstream appeal.

Shadi G — That Kind

Swedish singer, songwriter and producer Shadi G returns with “That Kind”, an R&B track filled with Middle Eastern flavour.

Sofi de la Torre x GARZI — Este Flow No Es Gratis

Spanish singer-songwriter Sofi de la Torre has been secretly dropping gems, and on her latest offering “Este Flow No Es Gratis”— her raspy vocals flows beautifully over the reggaeton production.

Luni x Tom Tripp — Fall Away

A Paris-London collaboration, “Fall Away” is a vibey track by Paris-based artist Luni and London-based artist and producer Tom Tripp which effortlessly combines R&B and hip-hop.

Toryia — Focused

Latvian-born, London-based singer-songwriter Toryia showcases her angelic vocals on her stunning new single “Focused”. Lyrically, the song details the importance of communication— communication is always key.

PLAZA — Demons

Mysterious Canadian singer-songwriter PLAZA made a triumphant return to music last year, and he isn’t slowing down this year either. His latest single “Demons” is the definition of dark R&B— trap-infused production, dark atmospheric vibe, dark lyrics and an infectious vocal performance.

Eli Sostre — Way Back

Eli Sostre has been one of the most consistent emerging artists in the past few years. He had a quiet 2021, but this year though, it looks like he’s coming for the throne. His latest mini project 566 features 3 new songs, “Blueprint”, “Get Right” and our favourite “Way Back”.

BLESSED — NO CHANGES

Ghanaian-Australian BLESSED is known for melodic music which flawlessly combines indie and hip-hop. His latest single “NO CHANGES” is anthemic and beautifully-written, and also arguably his best release yet. Lyrically, he explores inequality around the world. Brilliant.

girlhouse — a long december

Bedroom pop artist girlhouse is just an amazing artist. Her new single “a long december” blends indie, alternative and pop, and is worth a listen.
