TURNSPIT — HAVE A HEART

Leeds-based alt-electronica duo TURNSPIT share new single “HAVE A HEART”

Founded by Jess Clark and George Barwick, TURNSPIT is steadily establishing an excellent catalogue of impactful alt-electronica. Their new single, “HAVE A HEART”, carefully interweaves many elements to submerge you within an uncanny but invigorating atmosphere of oscillating melodies. Against this charged soundscape, Clark’s wispy vocals enunciate the more grounded core of longing and perhaps a little regret.

“C’mon, have a heart. What came of what had been.”

She delivers the message with a delicate yet soulful panache reminiscent of Portishead’s Beth Gibbons. You can really sense the rumination that, as it usually does, comes in piercing ebbs and silky flows as one sinks deeper into the mind. I particularly admired the muffled singing that every now and then flares up as if there’s inner-turmoil itching to break out. Compliments to the chefs.

The duo released three songs last year, “RIDE”, “CINDERELLA GIRL”, which blew me away, and “SURRENDER”, and this marks their first release of 2026. Just like the shadowy imagery this tune inspires, TURNSPIT is still embedded in the underground, but I suspect that they’ll continue to perk ears and enter the radar.
