Khamari — Drifting

Emerging R&B act Khamari returns with new single “Drifting”

Multifaceted independent artist, songwriter and producer Khamari was raised in Dorchester, a district in Boston, Massachusetts. Today, he makes his DNü debut with his stunning new single “Drifting”. It’s his first single in a year and it’s an ode to the challenges of living in the moment.

Built over a captivating production with a masterfully woven sample of Nina Simone’s chopped vocals, “Drifting” is relatable as it is poetic, Khamari delivers a soulful vocal performance that instantly sticks with listeners. This is a brilliant return, let’s hope he drops more music soon.

“Drifting is about escapism. I was trying to find a different way to express that headspace I was in. Finding a way away from monotony and overwhelming emotion. Originally we started from the piano and the drums, but I wanted to elevate it. So I chopped the intro to Nina Simone’s ‘Feeling Good’ over the track. To me, the irony in sampling a song about a woman singing about how she’s found euphoria, over a song about my struggle of being locked into a search for it, was a dope way to tell that story.” Khamari.
