Omaha-based indie rock band Bad Self Portraits drop “All Bark, No Bite”
Taken from their forthcoming debut album I Think I’m Going to Hell, Bad Self Portraits recently released new single “All Bark, No Bite”. The emotionally-charged track is the second single taken from the album due out on 26th August exclusively via vinyl, with a digital release to follow on 19th September.
“‘All Bark No Bite’ is based on my mother’s and my relationship. I’d rather not be related to her, but this song helped me clarify our separation and our differences, and affirms that I spent so much of my life as a little kid existing so close to someone so unstable. The lyrics highlight examples of blame placed on me as a child, and how I approach them now in my adult life. I learned to hate myself from her, but with years of therapy and loving, healthy relationships since then, I’ve learned how to love myself.” — Ingrid Howell.
Effortlessly blending the hazy textures of shoegaze with indie rock, the track pairs polished production with a blistering account of intergenerational trauma. Howell’s lyrics cut with surgical precision, while rich guitars and an aching vocal performance build toward a powerful, emotional release.
