Tochi Angel — in the end

Tochi Angel releases gorgeous new single “in the end”, taken from second EP Candidly

On Wednesday 7th January, Tochi Angel released her second EP, Candidly. Rooted in bedroom pop and indie folk, the project launches into themes of intimacy and self-definition.

Across Candidly, Tochi sounds more certain, not only in her lyrical perspective and unique sound, but in her growing technical confidence. She has been heavily involved in the production of all her released material, with each project marking a clear progression in both skill and intention.

The EP is stripped back, deliberate and precise, centring her lyrics and emotional presence. These themes come into focus on the EP’s track, “in the end”. Built almost entirely around layered vocals and looping acoustic guitar strumming, “in the end” demonstrates a delicate architecture that balances textural lightness and emotional density. The widely panned vocals drift outward with an ethereal openness, while the compressed, centred vocals remain intimate and direct. It’s as if the listener is being spoken to head on whilst being in the wider world Tochi created in this track.

Lyrically, “in the end” explores love alongside self-reclamation. Quite often Tochi returns to the idea of finding herself again, of healing from love and deciding when, how and with who to be open.

Tochi’s emphasis on self-knowledge extends beyond personal relationships and into something more political and foundational. She has spoken openly about her ongoing exploration of identity, which unfolds not only through her song writing but also through how she chooses to exist publicly and online.

That intention is especially evident in her recent video series, “candidly”, released alongside the EP. Rather than functioning as simply promotion, the series feels like an extension of the project’s emotional core; less like parallel projects and more interwoven reflections of each other. She speaks about expression as the antithesis to depression and the importance of making yourself big when the world would rather you stay small. In an era of flattened, performative or palatable online personas, Tochi Angel and her refusal to shrink is refreshing.

Importantly, it creates a space for Tochi to build up her community, her base. It’s a great example of strengthening her music through her social media, uniting them together in the well defined persona of Tochi Angel. It’s definitely a media strategy for upcoming artists to take note of.

Tochi is an inspiring young artist, we’re excited to see what she does next.
