Silver Liz — Trixie’s Crying

Brooklyn-based duo Silver Liz return with stunning new single “Trixie’s Crying”

Silver Liz are back again with another electrifying addition to their impressive portfolio, “Trixie’s Crying”, released via their independent record label Extremely Pure. This wonderfully layered gem steps into a dreamy realm with its frenetic synths and spacey guitar riffs while also staying grounded in a state of fuzzy contemplation.

“When I hear ‘Trixie’s Crying’ back, I think of how I was inspired. We were watching our friend’s calico cat named Trixie. After we fed her, she was still crying, and then I got an idea for the chorus that I started to record into a voice memo. I didn’t know what the song would be about, but initially it felt like a jangly pop arrangement in my head, then Matt worked his magic and turned it into its own electronic multi-textured universe.” — Carrie from Silver Liz.

The lyricism evokes a sense of yearning: ‘I’m useless in this department. Feelin’ like an amateur’. It speaks to the part in every individual who has at one point or another felt exasperated by their own expressive constraints. Carrie asserts that this comes from, “realising you’ve let someone down and not really knowing how to fix it. There’s a kind of emotional clumsiness there, like wanting to be better for someone but feeling unqualified or too late.”

This energy builds and eventually crescendos into a powerful shoegaze shred in the latter half where the tension spills over, carried by Carrie Wagner’s ethereal vocals that dance within the immersive and slightly grungy soundscape. “We liked the idea of pairing that vulnerability with something quite maximalist, sonically, because that’s how those feelings exist in real life – quiet shame or a feeling of inadequacy underneath a really loud internal spirit.” The result is an atmospheric and enthralling tune with a very human core.

Carrie and Matt live in Brooklyn, New York. Their new album will be dropping on the 30th January. You can pre-order the vinyl here.
