Sein Macey gets caught between desire and doubt on ‘Looping’. Following his 2025 debut EP My Kinda Flu, the Sweden-based artist returns with a song about staying emotionally invested when you’re beginning to suspect things won’t go your way.
Deep, funky bass, smooth vocals and sample-led production give that uncertainty somewhere to move. There’s an easy route in for fans of Thundercat and Anderson .Paak, with Sein bringing his love of hip-hop, R&B, soul and jazz into a sound built around the groove.
The track grew out of a session with Yannick Ernberg and Nils Hagdahl. Ernberg developed the beat, Sein played bass and Hagdahl helped shape the production, the three working out how to turn the feeling of being stuck in a loop into music.
“From the instrumentation to the feeling of the song itself, ‘Looping’ is about navigating hope and that space between thinking something is worth it before realising that maybe it’s not so much,” Sein explains.
“Ultimately, it’s about putting hope on the wrong pedestal and questioning how long you’re willing to stay in that cycle.”
That question gives the single its emotional centre. There’s something recognisable in knowing a situation is going nowhere and still finding a reason to give it another chance.
Born in Abu Dhabi and raised in Manila, Sein moved to Sweden in 2015. Now based in Örebro, the artist of Syrian and Filipino heritage balances music and DJing with work as a youth recreation leader, while taking his songs to stages across Sweden and Germany with a nine-piece band.
‘Looping’ opens the door to a larger body of work. For now, it offers an inviting introduction to an artist finding fresh possibilities in the space between a good groove and a difficult feeling.
