Q&A: Sawyer

Getting to know London-based alternative artist Sawyer

You don’t often see American artists packing up and crossing the Atlantic to chase the dream, but Florida-raised alternative artist Sawyer is flipping the script. Now based in London, the up and coming artist has been carving out his space in the city’s live scene, bringing a lot of energy to every stage he touches.

When he’s not performing, he’s posted up at the right events, plugged into the creative circles that matter and connecting with likeminded artists. Sonically, his evolution has been just as bold—what started in the emo pop lane has since grown into a blend of indie rock and pop with a punk edged attitude.

DNü: How has London been treating you?

Sawyer: I was kidnapped and brought here against my will, but I am not complaining. London has been a blessing. I came here from Miami, Florida last September and I don’t see myself ever leaving. The music is good and this weather has also been amazing. Nothing beats a good day laying in the park in the sun, a speaker, and a coupla pints.

DNü: Your song of the summer is….

Sawyer: My song of the summer is “Geezer” by Dominic Fike and Kevin Abstract off their new project. Hop on a lime bike after the pub with that playing in the headphones, bliss.

DNü: What do you normally order at Nandos?

Sawyer: My go to Nando’s order is 10 extra saucy wings, with a side of peri peri fires and garlic bread. I usually eat 5 wings at dinner and save the last 5 for lunch the next day, thank me later.

DNü: Your favourite song to perform live is….

Sawyer: My favourite song to perform is “saturday night (sweet)”, it’s a fan favourite so when people get into it with me it makes it so much more fun.

DNü: When can we expect new music from you?

Sawyer: I’m currently rolling out my debut EP, called lost but found. It features some of my favourite tracks that I’ve made recently with my friends back home — including “yllw” with boyband thats already out. The EP tells stories of romance, growing up, and sacrifice.

Catch Sawyer performing at our debut indoor festival this September. Tickets are on sale here.
