Laurel Smith Unveils New Single “Out the Cage”

London-based emerging artist Laurel Smith returns with new single “Out the Cage”, accompanied by a cinematic music video.

Although the hip-hop subgenres of drill and wavy rap are currently dominating the charts here in the UK, there’s a plethora of rising stars who are creating their own unique sound to not only stand out in a crowded industry but to truly showcase their art and hope it connects with listeners. North London’s Laurel Smith is one of those innovative artists that has been consistently dropping captivating singles accompanied by cinematic visuals in the past year.

Known for combining trap-infused production with R&B melodies and catchy pop lyrics, Smith returns with “Out the Cage”, another moody track that proves she’s one of the best emerging new acts around. Led by an alluring vocal performance, the lyrics and its dark subject add depth to the song. She has pieced together another brilliant song accompanied by an action packed and thrilling cinematic music video directed by Jeremie Brivet and Jai Garcha.

“‘Out The Cage’ is a song about breaking out from your constraints, both physical and mental. Although it can be interpreted in any way, when I wrote it I created a story around a bored housewife, falling out of love with her husband, she fantasises about tying him up and leaving him to be a badass assassin in a video game type world, roaming the city at night and living a life of unpredictability and excitement” — Laurel Smith.
